MOBILE AVIATION PLATFORM

Design
The MAP team are creative in thought and open to discuss individual platform requirements to ensure users have exactly what they need.
MAPs platforms have been designed and developed with safety and efficiency in mind, in accordance with the Australian Civilian Regulations (CAR) 1988 and Civil Aviation Advisory Publications (CAAP), specifically CAAP 92-2: Guidelines for the establishment and use of helicopter landing sites (HLS).
Over a period of 12 months, MAP engineers and draftsman worked collectively to model the platform in finite element design software using 3D electronic imagining. A successful assessment of the platform was conducted by an independent consultancy firm where the platforms adequacy was assessed against the requirements of Australian Building Code Standard 4100-1998 (R2016) “Steel Structures”.
Not only are MAPs platforms unique in design and efficiency, MAPs CEO, Steve Wellington is well networked in the Aviation industry and keeps abreast of developments in particular standards and recommended practices for international civil aviation raised by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
Manufacture
Manufactured on the Central Coast of NSW, MAP take no short cuts when it comes to the manufacture of their mobile landing platforms.
From the careful construction and welding of materials to the testing, installation and review of each platform, MAPs entire focus is on quality, compliance, and safety.
Constructed using the highest quality of materials by experienced and qualified engineers, technicians and fabricators, the platform frame is constructed of steel rectangular hollow sections (RHS) and surface lined with aluminium checker-plate.
Stability and easy manoeuvrability is achieved through the use of high grade quality stainless steel and 8.8 grade bolts, nuts and washers and solid swivel and ridged twin wheel castors which are fixed to the frame, taking the total weight of the platform to 1852kg. With two inspection hole covers located on the middle of the platform, users are able to conduct under carriage inspections and maintenance with ease and greater safety. In addition, platforms are fitted with aluminium wheel chock storage carriers to allow for the use of the chocks by the user at anytime.
Each platform is provided with its unique serial number and date of manufacture to ensure accuracy, compliance and transparency in its manufacture, installation and ongoing review.
Testing
The original mobile platform underwent 3 months of vigorous user testing of materials and 12 months in service use before the first platform was installation to the field. Overtime MAP have perfected the manufacture of their platforms and are continuing to develop innovative ways to improve the design and manufacture. Testing of each platform is now conducted using standardised techniques on site at MAP using uniformly distributed loads of 5OOOkg mass to test the manoeuvrability and safety of the platform in a variety of contexts.
Testing however does not stop upon production it continues on-site. MAP recommend operators conduct weekly inspections as part of their mobilisation schedule and annual on-site inspections. These can be done by operators or through engaging MAP certifiers who will complete a certified written inspection on all areas of the platform.
Installation
During initial consultation an assessment of the delivery site will be conducted. This will ensure required equipment is available to manoeuvre the platform to a desired space so it can be safely installed.
Delivered as a two-part platform, installation is achieved through connecting both parts using pins and high strength bolts to allow the operator to tension bolts to the required torque.
MAP provide clear written instructions with each serialised platform to allow for onsite operator installation with support from MAP personnel or alternatively MAP personnel can attend to the installation on site.
Review & Service
MAP recommended weekly inspections be conducted by the operator as part of their mobilisation schedule. These inspections can be achieved by following a quality assurance review guide prepared by MAP for each user of the platform. Operators are provided an easy to follow template to ensure each area of the platform is reviewed for safety and efficiency.
MAP personnel are available for consultation at any time to discuss the outcome of weekly inspections or any other issues identified.
MAP can provide specialised annual inspections onsite where a detailed review of the materials, mechanics and general inspection is conducted. Annual inspections include the completion of a detailed referenced quality assurance document, containing photographs, written inspection outcomes and recommendations. This report is provided to each user, signed off and reviewed by the Director of MAP, providing operators with the confidence the platform is safe and in good working order for continued use.
MAP are committed to providing ongoing support with the use and operation of the helicopter landing platform and welcome opportunities to discuss any concerns, recommendations or updates on the effectiveness of the platforms.
